First time seeing the Atlantic Ocean in 10 years. |

Last weekend I did some camping on Assateague Island for the first time in probably 18 years and saw the Atlantic Ocean for the first time in 10 years. Last time I saw the Atlantic was in 2008, just before I moved to LA. I forgot how much I love the Atlantic Ocean. It's so much more peaceful and inviting than the Pacific, which tends to be more wild and fierce.
Assateague is famous for its wild ponies. Legend has it that they arrived via a Spanish cargo ship that wrecked off shore. The ponies survive off of the local vegetation on the island. They now seem to coexist rather peacefully with human beachgoers.
I wanted to reaquaint myself with the area before it got too cold, and now that the summer crowds have decreased. It was a memorable trip, and I hope to make it a regular camping destination. Highlights were trying to photograph different birds I saw, the sunrise, and biking around the island. I camped in the state park because I did not realize the National Park was right down the road. Next time I will try and camp in the National Park because it looked like the campsites were nicer...
