My Top Ten Largest Redwoods of 2012

2012 was an excellent first year of tree hunting. What a memorable year it has been! Below are photos of my top 10 largest redwoods for 2012! Measurements were taken by tape measure. CBH means "circumference at breast height." Breast height is 4.5 feet from the base of the tree. All trees on this list are single stem trees.

1.) "Giant Tree" (Prairie Creek) cbh: 68 feet

2.) cbh: 56 feet, 1.5 in

3.) Since I could not measure this tree at breast height due to a burl, I took the average of the overhead and waste level measurement.
cbh: 54 feet, 5 in.

  1. A great year indeed. I got to see my first sweet gum trees this year. That itself is more than I could ever ask for. When coming that close to something so special, so unique, if I were to die and decompose into the soil where these trees get their nourishment, every event prior in my life wouldn't have meant anything compared to the great conclusion of my journey. A life well spent and with a fate fulfilled, I would have found my true purpose for existing at all. No one would have ever known and I wouldn't have had it any other way. My testament to our earth.

As special as it was to me, there are people out there destroying trees just like this for profit. One day people won't look to the future for their reason for existing. We all will either be living in a harmonious present sense, or extinct. We have to make next year count as well friend.

  2. Our planned trip to California for this year is on hold. I got a chance to go backpacking in Glacier NP and that's where it looks like we'll end up in 2013. There may be room in the budget for California, too, but I'm not sure.

  3. Hey James, I'm sure Glacier will not disappoint. Hopefully, I'll be up there as well mid June.
