Tuolumne Meadows

Here's a current shot of Tuolumne Meadows from the NPS website (snow covered). The top photo is what it looked like when I passed through in August. I think the peak on the left in my photo may be the same as the one that is pictured in the snowy photograph. I think the peak on the right in my photo may be Cathedral Peak.
Thanks for the link Robin. Man, I hope that snow starts melting soon! I've got a feeling it's going to be an interesting hike through the Sierra this year...

  1. You are most welcome for the link, Mark. And, yes, "interesting" is a tame word for how it will be. You're still thinking you'll hit the Sierra around June? One thing is for sure, you won't have difficulty finding water on the Trail! Which reminds me, when I did North to South Lake in July 2006, a big snow year, the only folks we saw were PCT thru hikers. The snow covered passes were discussed, especially Monitor and Glenn, but it was the river, stream and creek crossings that were daunting. That, and the backcountry crews weren't out yet so the trail had a lot of landslides and downed trees. All of it is doable, but it slows you down pretty good. And, by the way, the shoe of choice for water crossing, were Crocks. Most everyone we saw had them. I remember the color of choice being purple ;-) I'll post a photo of our crossing of Evolution Creek so you can get an idea.

  2. Robin, if Dan and I leave Campo around the 5th of May, I'm estimating it will take us about 35 days to reach Kennedy Meadows (averaging 20 miles a day), and then another two weeks before we reach the Mammoth area (averaging 15 miles a day in the Sierra.) That would roughly put us in Mammoth around June 23rd.

  3. Throw in a couple of zero days for good measure, sometime around June 25th?
